June 10 on 10: Live like you were dying

10 on 10: A photo taken every hour, for ten consecutive hours, on the tenth of the month. ~~~~~~ Well, I was going to try to do a whole song theme for this post like my March 10 on 10 post, but alas, even though I searched and searched, I didn't find a Tim McGraw song I liked well enough and that →

Posting this from heaven

I forgot to tell you all this yesterday, but I was raptured on Saturday. Grad school's done until the end of August, and now there's less than two weeks of school, and I will be free for the summer! I can't wait. I plan to spend lots of time at the barn, lots of time in the pool, and lots of →

Singapore Day 1, Part 2: Pictures that didn’t make the 10 on 10 cut but I wanted to blog a bit about anyway

This is day 2 of being wide awake at 5AM. I can't blame anyone for snoring this time... I just couldn't sleep. Oh well -- in a couple of hours I'll be catching a bus to Malacca, Malaysia, and it's a 4 hour ride, so I can sleep then if I feel the need. So instead of working on my grad →

Excuse me, I have a plane to catch; or, please don’t laugh at high school me

So this coming Monday is 10 on 10, and for once I'm not going to have to think about how to creatively shoot my stapler on my desk at work, because I'm actually going to be somewhere fun and interesting and different; somewhere that involves a long plane flight (hence my blog header for this month.) How fun and interesting and →

Welcome to Kari’s blog of horses and cute children

First off, happy birthday to me! Since that's how I roll, I'm asking people for a bale of hay. Not for me, silly (John wouldn't be very happy if I stored it in our apartment) but for the horses at Horses, Hope & Healing. If you're fresh out of a bale of hay, or just don't have enough wrapping paper, you →

Maui Day 3: Oh the weather outside is… pretty nice, actually

On Sunday, while we were sitting at a bus stop at a mall, groggily waiting for our second bus of the day, John observed how odd it was to be hearing Christmas music when it was 80 degrees and humid outside. I laughed then, but when we were out and about today and I heard yet another rendition of "Let →

Thanksgiving 2010: warm, dry, and quite well-fed

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Competing, arranging, roasting, glowing, sparkling, and serving were taken by my cousin Grant -- we swapped cameras for the afternoon and I lent him my 50mm lens, and he did a fantastic job! Thanks Grant!! :-) .

The sun and the rain and the appleseed

The title of this post comes from a table grace I learned backpacking in the Sierras with my church when I was a kid. I may have learned it before then, actually, but I associate it most strongly with backpacking, and I've been known to not just use it as a table grace, but whenever I'm feeling happy and blessed. →

The best field trip EVER–Google!!

So I know that today is Tuesday and thus this should be a Moose post, but between weather and time, I haven't had a chance to take any interesting pics. Besides, I took an awesome field trip yesterday, and I wanted to post pics of that!! So I'll try to get a Moose pic or two up tomorrow, but if →

Tuesdays with Moosie

[This post title comes with apologies to Mitch Albom -- if you know me, you know I can't ever resist a good pun. Or a bad one, for that matter.] I've decided that Tuesdays on my blog will be Moose day. Hey, if Dooce can have a Daily Chuck, I can have a Weekly Moose, right? :-) The day that Moose came →

I have three subscribers. W00t!!

I don't know who all three of you are who subscribe to me through Google Reader, but I want to buy you all Starbucks or something. :-) And if you don't subscribe and you use an RSS reader, then add my feed, whether it's through Google Reader or another feed reader! Even if I can't tell you're there, I'll feel loved. →

A horse of a different color

I promise I won't be obnoxious about posting Moose pictures. Yeah, I'll post them on my Flickr, but I'll try to keep the number of Moose-related blog posts to a minimum. I promise. But I dug through my digital files for some old pictures, and I just had to share them here. So just humor me, just this once, ok? :-) →

Yesterday was one of the best days of my life

If you're not my mom, you can skip this next part. ****** Dear Mom, I'm sorry I don't listen. I promise you raised me right -- this is just my own character flaw. I promise. :-) Just look at the pictures below and be glad your daughter is very, very happy. Love always, Your icing (AKA the one who doesn't ever listen) ****** So for the rest →

How very meta

I have to confess that when I get really focused on something (like, say, in the act of taking pictures) I tend to block out everything around me, and I forget that sometimes I may look silly or downright strange to onlookers. If you know me, this comes as no surprise to you. :-) So I always get a kick →

Welcome SacramentoConnect visitors!

I'm excited to be joining the SacramentoConnect.com community, and I was surprised and pleased to be featured in this week's newsletter. So welcome to all of you -- feel free to tool around here, check out the categories and tags at the bottom of this page, and ask me any questions you may have. :-) Also, I've made a Facebook fan →

Euro Trip Day 45: Nuremburg, or Nuremburg, or Nürnberg, or Nuernberg. Several spellings, one city.

I'm trying to play catch up on posts here, so bear with me. :-) ****** On Monday morning, July 19th, we got up, went and availed ourselves of our free breakfast at our hotel, and got our stuff packed to head to the train station. At this point in time, we have packing down to a science. We LONG ago dispensed with the →

Italy Day 3: Pompeii

I'm going to try something somewhat different in this post. In an attempt to not flood you with quite as many pictures as I'd like, I'm going to try linking to some of them instead. If you hold the mouse over the link but don't click on it, it'll tell you if it's to Flickr (a picture) or Wikipedia (some →

Aerospace Museum of California

Last Sunday I ventured out in the torrential rain (over an inch!) to the Aerospace Museum of California to check out their new space display, a NASA-created traveling exhibit that will be there through September. I like space well enough, but I didn't think the exhibit was worth the extra $10 on top of the regular admission price. I did →
